I'm a HUGE fan of active recovery. I've often been asked how I incorporate "rest days" into my training, since I train every day. This is exactly how I do it. I usually like to have a few easy-effort training days per week. On these days I might only do around 70% of moderately hard effort. This allows me to get some movement in, get some sun, burn some calories, but not stress myself in a way that is going to require an significant recovery. These workouts are supposed to make me feel ENERGIZED after, not tired.
In the past, I would take days off but always found that my body would feel worse than if I had just trained a bit lighter. Since then, I've found these lighter training days to be super enjoyable and highly productive.
